Vijayawada: YSRCP activists laid siege to the police station at Hanuman Junction here on Wednesday protesting against registering cases against the YSRCP cadre and some students following a dispute between the TDP and the YSRCP workers on Sunday.

The angry party workers demanded that the police immediately release Bandi Satish of Veerapanenigudem in connection with the dispute broke out in K Seetarampuram village. Party district president Kolusu Parthasarathy and other leaders went to the police station from Vijayawada to speak to police.

Earlier, dispute broke out on Sunday night over a petty issue. The YSRCP local leaders conducted Rachabanda programme on Sunday and garlanded the statue of Babu Jagjeevanram and paid homage to the departed leader at K Seetarampuram village in Bapulapadu mandal in Gannavaram Assembly constituency limits. It sparked the dispute between the two sides.

On the same day night, the Telugu Desam and YSRCP local activists clashed in the same village due to an old rivalry. One YSRCP activist Chinna Kasi Viswanath was injured and shifted to the Eluru government hospital. Later, Hanuman Junction police registered cases against the TDP leaders for the attack.

Later, the police booked SC/ST atrocity cases against 11 YSRCP leaders, including the constituency in-charge Yarlagadda Venkata Rao. Hence, angry YSRCP leaders and workers laid siege to the Hanuman Junction police station on Wednesday night and demanded that police withdraw cases registered against the YSRCP leaders and workers. Party leader Dutta Ramachandra Rao and other leaders participated in the protest.

The circle inspector of the station stayed inside the station and locked the doors in view of the angry protest of YSRCP leaders. After discussions, the protestors pacified.
