Vijayawada: Newly appointed DGP R P Thakur said on Saturday maintenance of law and order is the top priority and made it clear that there will be zero percent tolerance on rowdy and bad elements. RP Thakur has been elevated from the DG of ACB to the DGP. He took the charge from his predecessor M Malakondaiah, who retired on Saturday.

After many days of deliberations, chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu had chosen R P Thakur for the coveted post. Later, addressing media conference at the state police head quarters, Thakur said the Andhra Pradesh has well efficient police force and he would follow the policies set by his of his predecessors.

He said he would try to maintain good relations with the people and media. ‘The police would get lot of information when the police maintain good relations with the people’, he added. He further said there would transparency in the police department as it was maintained in the ACB. He thanked the chief minister Nara Chandrababu Naiud for giving him the post of DGP.

He said it is a great honour to get the post of DGP. Referring to crime against women, he said special attention will be paid and it one of the priority subjects. Top officials of the police department greeted the new DGP at the police head quarters.
