The Minister held a review meeting with the officials of Housing department at Golden Jubilee Hall here on Saturday and said making of bricks has been attached to NREGS programme and still it was found to be a burden on the poor. Even though it mounts burden on the state government, the Chief Minister decided to bear the total expenditure on bricks.

“Andhra Pradesh has been implementing the housing programme on an ideal basis even though there was no adequate support from the Centre. The state government has so far constructed 6 lakh houses across the state from its own sources. Main focus of the state government is the welfare of the poor and committed for their wellbeing,” said the Minister.

He further said that the government has taken a decision to provide Rs. 25,000 to each house that was sanctioned before 2014 for completing the structure. For this, he said, they had allocated Rs. 500 crorefor taking up the works on incomplete houses across the state. He appreciated efforts of the district Housing officials who achieved 100 per cent target in completion in NTR rural housing for 2016-17 and also said still the district has been lagging behind in other schemes of housing and suggested a roadmap for achieving the targets.

He informed that out of 73,892 houses sanctioned,so far, 36,724 have been completed with Rs. 359 crore. Srinivasulu also said some constituencies were showing poor results and asked them to solve the problems so that houses can be completed. He conducted constituency wise review meetings with officials for finding reasons to know the difficulties in implementing the scheme. He asked the officials to achieve 100 pc results in all areas and assured his cooperation. OSD Satyanarayana, senior officials of the Housing department SVVR Prasad and others were present.
