Vijayawada: The State government is going to open three Anna Canteens in Vijayawada on Wednesday. Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is likely to launch the Anna Canteen near Vidyadharapuram RTC workshop.
According to the officials, in all 16 canteens would be set up in the city. The arrangements are being made in this regard. The three canteens -Vidyadharapuram, Krishnalanka and Dharna Chowk --would provide services officially from Wednesday.
The State government gave contract work to L and T Company and the canteens are being set up with modern technology and attractive look.
Presently, the work on Anna Canteens is nearing completion at a brisk pace.
Indeed, the local body officials could not select suitable sites for five Anna canteens. So far the sites have been selected at Vidyadharapuram (RTC Workshop Road), HB Colony (Bhavanipuram), Singhnagar (near flyover), Alluri Seetaramarju Centre, Ayodhyanagar, Ranigarithota, Nallagate School, Saibaba Temple (Krishnalnka), High School Road (Patamata) and Gandhiji High School (One town) in the city limits.
The officials could not find sites at Rajeev Nagar, Madhuranagar, Geetanagar (Krsihnalanka) and Undavalli (Near CM’s residence). The canteens are being constructed with modern technology.
The structure would be erected totally with wood and glass. The buildings are being painted with yellow and red colours etched with the pictures of Telugu Desam founder late N T Rama Rao and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
Similarly the modern style flooring, wood and glass fitting doors, walls and greenery facilities are added attractions to Anna canteens. One senior employee of the construction company on condition of anonymity said that the government is spending Rs 50 lakh on each Anna Canteen.
He also said that the Akshaya Patra Foundation would supply food items for Anna Canteens. The foundation started food supply trial run almost two days back, he said.
Municipal Commissioner G Niwas inspected the Anna Canteens here on Tuesday on the eve of the launching function. He directed the officials to make sure hygienic conditions adjacent to Anna Canteens. Especially good drainage facility should be provided at canteens, he told them.
