Tirupati: Leaders and activists of various political parties and youth organisations joined together to stage a dharna at RDO office here on Monday, to press the revenue authorities to take steps for the restoration of the road which is allegedly under the occupation of the police.

Addressing the gathering, founder president of Nava Samaja Federation which is spearheading the stir for the restoration of the road under police occupation in New Balaji Nagar in the city said that due to the closure of the road by the police, residents including students were forced to go roundabout for 2 km facing inconvenience.

Mahila Congress district president R Sridevi, Lok Satta Party state secretary Balasubramanayam, Democratic Youth Federation of India state vice-president S Jayachandra and others said that as the city is rapidly growing, the road is essential as it will act as a loop line to the crowded AIR bypass road and wanted the revenue authorities to take immediate steps to resume the road under occupation.

Later, the leader met RDO Narasimhulu to submit a representation along with documents supporting their allegation that the road was occupied by the police to expand the parade ground in the process closed the road on both ends.

Speaking to the media, senior Congress leader M Gopal Reddy and social activist Raja Reddy said that they would resort to legal course if the revenue authorities fail to take action in the larger interests of the people of the city and also take the issue to higher authorities.
