Kakinada: Several educational instructions, particularly engineering colleges have been opting for solar power in East Godavari.

Apart from saving power costs, the subsidy by Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) to the tune of 30 percent in the cost of equipment and almost negligible cost of maintenance said to have promoted the institutions to opt for solar power.

For installation of 1MW solar power, it costs Rs 6 crore.

Among the institutions, Aditya Engineering College at Surampalem in Peddapuram mandal of East Godavari got 1 MW solar power installation and using for the needs of its college and hostel.

Among the other institutions, Adarsha College of Engineering in the district got solar installation to the tune of 50 KW.

Similarly, the BVC College of Engineering at Odalarevu in the district opted for 100 KV installation, the BVC College of Engineering at Batnavilli in Amalapuram Rural selected 100 KW installations.

According to East Godavari NREDCAP district manager G Satyanarayana, several more instructions opted for solar installations to save cost of power supplied in conventional process.

Besides this, there will be zero pollution with solar installations besides the subsidy by MNRE, the DM clarified.
