Vijayawada: Terming the Muslim Women (Protection of Marriage Rights) Bill-2017 ‘draconian,’ the convener of Muslim Thinkers Forum (MTF) AM Khan Yazdani appealed to Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu and YSRCP supremo Y S Jaganmohan Reddy to stall the bill in the Upper House of Parliament through their Rajya Sabha members.

He informed that MTF was organising a day-long meeting of Muslim clerics and intellectuals at Vijayawada on July 29 to express their grave concern about the bill drafted by the government. Speaking to media here on Wednesday, Khan found fault with the bill in question criminalising the Instant Triple Talaq and intention of punishing the husband with a jail term of maximum three years and by imposing a fine.

Blurring the difference between Triple Talaq and Instant- Triple Talaq, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was trying to paint the Muslim fraternity as crude towards women, he alleged. Either the Prime Minister misunderstood the issue or deliberately misleading the nation, Yazdani pointed out. He said that the bill was clear evident of Central government’s practice of instant and unilateral triple talaq to Muslim community of the nation.

He pointed out that the peaceful environment and co-existence in the country has been disturbed and communal intolerance was on the rise since Modi voted to power in the country. The lynching and mob attacks on Muslims and Dalits become daily affair during the BJP-led NDA government stint, he lamented.
