Kakinada: East Godavari joint collector A Mallikarjuna reviewed the supply of essential commodities in view of transport operators’ bandh from Friday evening.

The joint collector convened a review meeting at the Collectorate here on Friday with the transport, police, revenue, marketing, civil supplies, APSRTC and representatives of Lorry Owners Association.

Mallikarjuna asked the civil supplies authorities to monitor the essential commodities transport. He asked the representatives of lorry owners to give instructions to its office bearers and members not to create any problems for transport of essential commodities.

In case of need, they will not hesitate to enforce ESMA, the joint collector warned. The joint collector also directed the Rajahmahendravaram sub-collector and all the RDOs to review the wholesale trade of essential commodities and supply of essentials.

LPG, petrol and diesel transport are exempted from bandh in Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam and Rajamahendravaram. The joint collector asked the transport operators to extend the same facility to Kakinada also.

The joint collector assured the lorry operators to forward their representation to higherups as the issue falls under the purview of State and Central governments.

The East Godavri Lorry Owners Association representatives Rajana Surya Prakash and G Mrutuymjaya Rao assured all possible help to the district administration.

East Godavari DSO G Prasada Rao, deputy transport commissioner Siri Anand, RTC regional manager Ch Arun Kumar, Kakinada RDO L Raghu Babu and other officials attended.
