Vijayawada: Over 400 surgical trainees of final year post-graduates from across Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Odisha and Chhattisgarh attended the Regional Refresher Course organised by the Association of Surgeons of India headed by Dr PV Ramana Murthy, Chairman of Andhra Hospitals on Saturday.
Prof Michael-Lavelle-Jones, president of the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, delivered the keynote address and participated in a symposium on ‘Challenges facing surgical training in the UK and India’. Dr P Raghu Ram, convener of international affairs for Association of Surgeons of India (ASI) proposed that the Association of Surgeons of India must conduct courses in various parts of the country in collaboration with the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh.
This proposal was accepted by Prof Michael Lavelle-Jones. Raghu Ram said in due course an MoU was drawn to establish formal collaboration between ASI and RCS Ed. Professor Graham Layer and Professor John Duncan, two Senior Vice-Presidents of Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh in addition to Dr Santhosh John Abraham, Director Surgical Studies, ASI and Dr Dilip Gode, President, ASI participated in the meet.
