Tirupati: The construction of works of mega pilgrim rest house complex and Kalyanamandapam have been progressing at Tiruchanur, the abode of PadmavatiAmmavaru, at a snail’s pace due to lack of regular supervision by the TTD engineers. The complex is located at Daminedu village adjacent to Chennai-Anantapur National high way.

Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam board had sanctioned Rs 50 crores to build the mega rest house with multiple amenities for the convenience of the pilgrims who are coming to worship Goddess PadmavatiAmmavaru. This project work was started in 2014 February, construction works are going on in an extent of 5.5 acres. TTD engineers have designed the rest house complex with five floors, dormitory, restaurant, bank, luggage clock room and Kalyanamandapam and vehicle parking also.

Actual period for the completion of the complex is only 18 months. But the works have been progressing at a slow pace for the past four years. It is estimated that after completion of the complex, 2,000 pilgrims can avail accommodation in a day. It is also useful for conducting marriages. Butdue to technical reasons and lack of coordination between contractor and TTD engineers, the works are delayed. One of the senior officials in TTD engineering department is insisting on implementing the conventional methods in construction works.

The total construction area is 5 lakh square feet. In the present days, engineers prefer to use ready mix concrete machine for laying slabs in huge complexes. But the TTD engineers insist on using manual concrete mixing method for the slab. Similarly,Annadanam complex works are progressing at snail’s pace. Ten years ago, TTD extended free meals scheme to Tiruchanur temple. The Board sanctioned Rs 5 crores to build Annadanam complex with about 5,000 pilgrims dining capacity and modern kitchen facilities at Tiruchanuru temple.

Even the works of Annadanam complex are also progressing slowly. Officials from engineering department say that the works were stopped for some months last year due technical reasons and demonetisation. TTD Chief Engineer C Chandra Shekar Reddy said to The Hans India that due to various reasons mega rest house complex works were delayed. Works of the rest house complex and Annadanam complex would be completed in two months, he says.
