Vizianagaram: The leaders and spectators, who participated in Dasa Disa programme organised here on Sunday, unanimously agreed that the interests of farmers should be protected.
They appealed government to expedite the construction of irrigation projects in the district. The demanded that the agriculture produce should be paid minimum support price and godowns should be constructed to preserve fruits, vegetables and other agriculture produce. Similarly, agriculture loans should be granted liberally.
They alleged that successive governments had neglected the backward districts and as a result no new industry was established. Therefore, the youth of the district are migrating to to Hyderabad and Chennai in search of livelihood.
The state government was spending money only in Amaravati and neglecting the rest of the districts, they pointed out. Kurupam MLA P Pushpa Srivani alleged that the oustees of Thotapalli project were not being paid compensation and the project is not yet completed even after spending crores of rupees. She alleged that interests of farmers are ignored. DCC President Y Adiraju said that the present MLAs lack commitment towards progress of society and they are working for their selfish gains.
YSRCP In-charge of Araku Lok Sabha constituency S Pareekshit Raju demanded that the Union government release adequate funds for Tribal University and grant funds to complete the Bhogapuram International Airport. Both the TDP and BJP betrayed the people by giving fake promises on special category status.
District Secretary of CPM M Krishna Murthy alleged that Vizianagaram district was deprived of funds after bifurcation of the state. The Central government should give Rs 3,000 crore to every district, but it released only Rs 50 crore to the district under special development funds.
The spectators questioned the TDP why it accepted the special package instead of special status. K Trimurthula Raju said that they were misguided by the Union government. District Secretary of CPI T Suryanarayana alleged that Chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu had failed to spent money on constructive works.
