Nellore: Municipal administration minister P Narayana described call for total bandh on Tuesday by the YSR Congress Party “a foolish act” which would cause trouble to people. Speaking to here on Monday, Narayana said YSRCP president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy was terrified by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and hence had given bandh call in the state instead of fighting for the Special Category Status in Lok Sabha.

“YSRCP members have run away from Lok Sabha without demanding the Centre to grant SCS and fulfilment of other promises. They had lost their chance to express their views in the presence of the Prime Minister,” he said.

He also said Kanna Lakshminarayana and Somu Veerraju had no moral right to tour in the state in view of the betrayal of AP by the party. Dwelling on the local issues, Narayana said that Rs 500 crore was allocated to lay new roads, take up repairs and also for construction of footpaths in Nellore city. He inspected the progress of desilting of drains at Srihari Nagar in city.

He said officials had been directed to complete the works of 35 parks under Nellore Municipal Corporation limits within next three months and added that toilets on par with star hotels would be constructed in government schools at a cost of Rs.5 crore.

The minister visited the municipal primary schools in the city to identify the problems being faced by the students and teachers as well. He appealed to the NGOs, private organisations and philanthropists to come forward for developing schools in the city.
