Ongole: Former MP GV Harsha Kumar asked Dalits to show the government their unity and mighty power in the Chalo Mangalagiri protest on August 5, which is also being called as the Millennium March.

He spoke to the media in Ongole on Thursday along with the local Dalit leaders and announced that they are committed to do the march irrespective of the permission from the government.

Harsha Kumar said that a few forces in the country are trying to weaken the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act and the Supreme Court setting up restrictions in implementing the act is also one of them.

He said that a number of people have died in the country in protests against the restrictions and demanding the union government to amend the constitution to put the SC ST Act under schedule 9.

He announced that the show of strength is the only way to fight the discrimination being faced by the dalits in the rule of upper castes. He listed that there are many incidents of the discrimination being reported by the dalits in the state, but the government is not taking any action.

He said that they continue to knock the doors of courts to get permission for the million march proposed on August 5, as the government kept denying it continuously.

He saw discrimination in the denial of permission and said that the government allows Pawan Kalyan and YS Jaganmohan Reddy to do their yatras but never allow the dalits to raise their voice.

He asked the dalits and dalit fronts in the district to join them in the million march from Nagarjuna University to the Mangalagiri as the people like Prakash Ambedkar, the grandson of Dr BR Ambedkar, former MP Chinta Mohan, CPI and CPM leaders K Ramakrishna and P Madhu and Kapu leader M Padmanabham and others are also joining it to support the dalits.
