Vijayawada: Succumbing to the pressure exerted by the truck operators who observed eight days strike across the country demanding that the government reduce the prices of diesel and resolve other problems, the Centre had agreed to put forth proposals again to GST Council to bring diesel under the purview of GST and also engage Petroleum and Finance Ministries for monthly revision of diesel prices.

The Central government is taking measures to address some of the major problems being faced by the truck operators in the country. Following the eight-day strike by transport operators, the Centre has decided to constitute a high-power committee to resolve the long pending issues. All India Motor Transport Congress (AIMTC) president S K Mithal in a press release on Saturday announced that the high-powered committee which comprises the representatives from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), CBDT, Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs and six members of AIMTC will sort out the issues.
