Nellore: Nellore Urban Development Authority had started measures to invite tenders for preparation of Detailed Project Report in a couple of days for the proposed Outer Ring Road for city on a stretch of 42 km.

The state government had proposed an outer ring road with 42 km length and with a width of 200 feet to relieve traffic pressure on the Mini By-pass Road, GNT Road, and also on the National Highway-16.

It may be recalled that the Ministry of Urban Development asked the civic authorities to submit a Detailed Project Report (DPR) on the proposed project in the first quarter of this year. Joint Director of Urban Development Ministry Praveen Prakash also visited Nellore city and directed the officials to submit a DPR.

Nellore city, which is having more than 6 lakh population, has been designated as tier-2 city surrounded by industries, special economic zones, thermal plants and other manufacturing units. The city is having a road network of 320 km for serving needs of city commuters and the main road connecting Atmakur Bus stand and the high way via RTC Bus Complex and Ayyapagudi Junction for 12 km is facing huge vehicular traffic.

City has been expanding consistently and there are more than 15,000 vehicles in city limits causing traffic jam problems. Commercial carriers have to take either bypass or the national highway to reach Stonehouspet, Chinnabazaar, Nawabpet and other places only during the time fixed by the traffic department. Civic body felt the proposed ORR will address these issues.

Now, majority vehicles, including private travel services, are entering the city via Children’s Park Road and returning back on the same route. Limited people take the main and Mini-Bypass roads.

Mini Bypass Road is parallel to the GNT Road and connects Eastern and Western parts of the City and commuters usually prefer this road only during heavy traffic rush on the GNT Road in the morning and evening hours. They are also facing difficulty with no road connecting flyover between Atmakur Bus Stand and Ayyappa Temple junction.

The main feature of the Outer Ring Road is connecting bypass road, NH-5, Jonnawada Road and Podalakur Road. Now, officials are getting ready for inviting tenders for the DPR, said Nuda Chairman K Srinivasulu Reddy.
