Vijayawada: Senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao took strong objection to the recent statement by Assembly Speaker Kodela Sivaprasada Rao that only two per cent works of Polavaram Project were completed by 2014 and 56 per cent works were completed during the last four years of TDP rule.

Ramachandra Rao wrote a letter to the Speaker on Wednesday saying that the latter has been misleading people on Polavaram Project construction works. He said Kodela has done a very good job by visiting the Polavaram Project with 3,000 people recently.

He said it was incorrect to say that only 2 per cent works were completed till 2014. He said Rs 5,136 crore was spent by successive governments for Polavaram Project works till 2014.

The Rajya Sabha member said 145 km Polavaram right canal was dug against the total length of 177 km and 135 km left canal work was completed against the 180-km length during the regime of Dr Y S Rajasekhara Reddy.

He said the remaining works would have been completed if legal hurdles were not there. He said the UPA government had announced that the Central government would bear the entire expenditure on Polavaram Project. He felt that the TDP government was misleading people and people in the high positions like Speaker should give correct information to the people.
