Tirupati: The public sector Telecom major BSNL has taken up a massive technology upgradation with an outlay of Rs 171 crore aimed at modernisation of mobile technology in Andhra Pradesh. It is going to introduce 5 G network in its mobile technology soon.

Speaking to media here on Thursday, BSNL Chief General Manager A Poornachandra Rao said that the modernisation plan include upgradation of main switch centres (MSCs) and towers and upgrade of GGSN (Gateway GPRS Serving Node) to provide better mobile internet facility to BSNL customer in the state.

With the commissioning of GGSN, the daily data use in the state which was 72-73 terra bite has gone up to 100 terra bite now, Rao said
adding it would further go up with the high speed super highway network.

The BSNL, which has 22,000 km long optical fibre cable network, recently introduced high speed super highway facility covering Vizag, Rajamahendravaram, Vijayawada, Kadapa and Kurnool areas. Remaining areas would be covered soon, he said.

As many as 700 towers including 2 G and 3 G will be modernised to extend mobile network to hitherto uncovered villages in and also enhance the existing network capacity in the state, he said claiming that the demand for BSNL mobile facility has been increasing following the improvement of the services.

In Chittoor district alone 19,000 mobile connections were added in the last one year while the land line facility also saw a big jump state wide registering 24 per cent growth. In tune with growing demand for BSNL landline, the corporation added more facilities to BSNL landline BB including audio and video conference at a low price under its `next generation network’ to customers.

In this connection he said, BSNL added 9900 BB landline connections in July alone and expects to cross 10,000 in August due to addition of more facilities making broad band connection more attractive now. One more facility recently introduced by BSNL is `Wings’ that can be availed by any mobile network customer having internet access to make voice call to any land line or mobile phone across the country.

This facility will be provided at a annual payment of Rs 1099 against which the customer will be given a ten digit number to get `Wings’. Already the BSNL has got 22000 applications for the new facility and expecting the number to increase soon, he averred. BSNL Tirupati general manager MSA Nutan was also present.
