Akiveedu: The residents of Akiveedu town have been protesting against the functioning of the electricity department staff, who failed to attend to their electricity problems that have been arising frequently.
They staged a protest in front of the electricity office here, when the latter did not attend even the phone calls made by the residents, for the restoration of the electricity in the town, on Thursday.
Apart from the frequent voltage fluctuations, interrupted supply, they have been facing occasional problems of collapse of the power supply lines and the poles for gales coupled with the rains.
The residents alleged that the officials were taking care of the power supply to the aqua farms and the ignored domestic lines. While their sole interest is the erection of a new supply lines for the fish and prawn ponds apart from correcting the voltage problems of the ponds, they had no interest in attending work related to domestic supply.
The officials from AE to higher ups were not even responding to their phone calls during the emergency situations.
The Setting up of improvement transformers was need for many areas in the town. However, they were not attending such works, the residents complained.
The negligent attitude of the officials irked them, who spend night without power supply had staged a protest.
They complained that the poles were falling down because of the improper maintenance. The poles were also in dilapidated condition as they were not been replaced for several years, they added.
