Visakhapatnam: Another Braille-Audio Library was inaugurated here on Friday for empowering the students with visual impairment and encouraging braille reading and writing amongst the visually challenged students at the Helen Keller Memorial Association for the Blind.

Digital Book Library was started in 2008 and it is aimed at making education accessible for the print-disabled, including visually impaired, dyslexic children and those with verbal processing difficulties.

The library house will have over 1,000 books of Braille versions besides novels, general knowledge, self-help and books on literature, the library will offer curriculum books too for the students in the Class I to PG.

Apart from Braille books, the library will also have an MP3 player facility that will enable students to access books in audio format. The Braille Library project was initiated by Amway in 2016 to provide easy access to Braille books to visually impaired students and help them build language proficiency.

The main idea of the centre is to smoothen the education for visually impaired kids, who have to go from pillar to post to get their books read,” says Mahantesh GK, founder Managing Trustee, Samarthanam Trust, for the disabled.
