Kadapa: Director General of Police RP Thakur on Sunday warned of stringent action against those who operate mines without having proper licence or blasting permissions.
Addressing a press conference after reviewing the status of mines in Rayalaseema region with officials, the DGP said the department would conduct inspections on mines along with revenue, fire and mines department officials across the state in 10 days.
He said that severe action would be initiated against those who operate mines violating the established norms. Stating that many quarries located in the Rayalaseema region compared to other areas in the state, the DGP said impartial enquiry would be conducted in the blast that took place in Kurnool district which claimed 12 lives.
He added the police took some persons into their custody for interrogation and a comprehensive report would be submitted to the government after completion of the investigation.
The DGP directed the officials to ensure in conducting inspections on crackers godowns and seize them if they were operating without having proper licences to avoid untoward incidents in the coming Dasara and Deevali festivals.
Describing the attack on Rapur police station in Nellore district by the locals as unfortunate, the DGP said such incidents would send wrong message to public over the functioning of police department.
He said the people should not take the law into their hands as it was against the constitution. However,the DGP made it clear that impartial investigation would be conducted over the Rapur incident and action against those including police, if found guilty, would be taken.
He also stressed on the need for cooperation between police and forest department for eradication of red sanders smuggling in the Rayalaseema region.
The DGP lauded the initiatives of police in preventing the illegal transportation of red sanders by notorious smugglers. At the same time,he directed them to coordinate with the forest department as they were not able to achieve such a mammoth task lonely.
It is learnt that DGP has enquired about how the wood-cutters entering forest areas and what kind of steps are being taken by the police to prevent their entry.
He said the Chief Minister was keen to prevent the red sanders smuggling by providing necessary infrastructure facilities to the police and forest staff.
Enquiring over the law andorder problem in the region, the DGP directed the officials to ensure ‘friendly policing’ in the interest of victims approaching the police without fear. The DGP lauded Kadapa SP BabujeeAttada for effectively implementing ‘Rakshitha’ concept for preventing different crimes witnessing against women.
