Vizianagaram: The government is according top priority for the welfare of farmers, said Minister for Agriculture Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy.

The Agriculture Minister, along with Minister for Mines and Geology RVSK Ranga Rao, participated in a programme organised here on Thursday to redress the grievances of farmers.

After inaugurating the programme, Sujay said that though the Union government is not supporting the state, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu is working for the welfare of the farmers.

“The opposition was flayed on loan waiver scheme, but we proved them wrong. Thousands of farmers availed the scheme. Even the government was conducting soil testing across the state and supplying the micro nutrients to the farmers. We are sanctioning borewells under NTR Jalasiri farms and providing free power to the agriculture connections,” Sujay reminded.

The farmers, who have not availed the scheme, can contact officers concerned. Later, Sujay, along with Chandramohan Reddy, distributed loan waiver certificates to beneficiaries. Somireddy visited Gajapathinagaram and interacted with farmers, and enquired how the loan waiver scheme helped them.

Though Vizianagaram district is getting good rain fall, the productivity here is lesser than Rayalaseema, he pointed out. The agriculture staff should visit the fields regularly, interact with the farmers and solve their problems, he suggested.

He further stated that the government distributed tractors to support the farmers and Gajapathinagaram farmers are ahead of other farmers in the district and producing more grains by utilising the services of the government.
