Kurnool: A group of six people from Hyderabad thrashed a forest section officer who objected to their consuming alcohol on the prohibited ghat section at Srisailam late on Tuesday night. Not contended with beating him up, they also humiliated the helpless officer by forcing him to touch their feet, only after which he was let off.

According to the information, a group of six persons came to Srisailam from Hyderabad to have a darshan at the temple. On their way, they stopped at Akkamma hotel near Sunnipenta and began consuming alcohol. Incidentally, Atmakur forest section officer Jyothi Swaroop who happened to pass on the route, noticed them consuming alcohol.

He reached them and asked them not to consume alcohol as it was prohibited zone. Infuriated by his advice, the six persons began to thrash him. Not stopping at that, one of them even demanded the officer to touch his feet and apologise or else he had to face the dire consequences.

He also threatened the officer that he was the son of an MLC and can “see his end:. Another person was busy shooting the entire episode on his mobile. The helpless officer was finally forced to touch their feet. After being let off, Jyothi Swaroop, alerted the other forest officers and staff.

On receiving the information, they rushed to the spot and caught hold of five persons and handed over them to Srisailam II town police. One among the six is absconding.

When contacted, Srisailam II Town SI H Obulesu did not confirm the arrest of the accused. He merely said, “Based on the complaint by forest section officer Jyothi Swaroop, we have taken up investigation.”
