​Guntur: Noted poetess Alluri Gowri Lakshmi exhorted the poets here on Sunday that they should destroy the darkness all over world with their swords of poetry. Addressing the meeting organised by ‘Amaravati Sahiti Mitrulu’ as the poet of the month, Gowri Lakshmi said that the poetry should act like a sword to destroy darkness, and also like nice fragrance to drive out bad smell.

She read out her poetry eulogising women, describing the impact of media, the condition of women and children and the problems of bifurcation of the State. Dr Ravi Ranga Rao, president of Amaravati Sahiti Mitrulu, presided over the meeting.

Mannam Venkata Guruvu elaborated the qualities of the poetry written by the late litterateur Dasarathi. He also recalled the wonderful film songs written by Dasarathi.

Later, Dr Ramadugu Venkateswara Sarma, Jammalamadaka Bhvabhuti Sarma, Kanagala Jay Kumar, Arepalli Saidulu, Perugupalli Balaram, Burri Kumar Raja, Annapregada Venkata Narasimha Rao, Ginjupalli Bapaiah Chowdary, Ravinutala Kamalakumari and other poets participated in the Kavi Sammelanam’.

Alluri Gowri Lakshmi has been felicitated as the Poet of the Month. The meeting observed two-minute silence paying tribute to the BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee and noted writer Vedagiri Rambabu who died recently.
