Vijayawada: The mortal remains of former MP Chennupati Vidya were consigned to flames with many people from all over two Telugu-speaking states bidding adieu to popular women’s benefactor.

Slogans of Johar Chennupati Vidya and Chennupati Vidya Amar Rahe rented the air throughout the four-km long procession, which started at the premises of Vasavya Mahila Mandali, which she had been nurtured for 50 years and culminated at the crematorium at Ramalingeswara Nagar on the banks of River Krishna.

Director General of Police (Vigilance and Enforcement) Gautam Sawang, Inspector General Sanjay, Lakshmi Partha Sarathi, managing director of Amaravati Development Corporation and several politicians including Zilla Parishad chairperson Gadde Anuradha, former minister Vadde Sobhanadreswara Rao, Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar, former MP Lagadapati Rajagopal, former mayor Tadi Sakuntala, father Koshi of Navajivan Balabhavan and scores of others joined the procession.

A large contingent of her family members including Dr G Samaram, Dr G Vijayam, Dr Olos, Dr Sudeepti, Rashmi Samaram, Keerti, Dr Deeksha, Dr Meher, Dr Meroz, Vishal Gora, Milav, Chunav, Suez, Niyanta, Sakala, Rajata and others attended the funeral procession. The eldest son of Chennupati Vidya, Chennupati Vazir lit the pyre amidst raising slogans.
