AIIMS begins op from temporary campus

Vijayawada: As the new campus is not yet ready for the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) at Mangalagiri in Guntur district, the institution has started functioning from its temporary campus at the Government Siddhartha Medical College here on Thursday.

The authorities conducted induction ceremony at the temporary campus for the first batch of 2018-19 MBBS students. The ceremony was on the theme of empowering students to create healthy and happy communities.

Dr TS Ravikumar, Special officer of the AIIMS, was the chief guest and Dr R Sasank, Principal of the SMC and Nodal Officer of the AIIMS, was the guest of honour on the occasion.

As part of the ceremony new ‘Sushrutha AIIMS Lecture Gallery of Future’ auditorium was inaugurated by Dr Ravikumar. Dr R Sasank, Shramdeep Sinha, Deputy Director (Administration), Dr Joy A Ghoshal, Dean, faculty members and newly-inducted students of AIIMS Mangalagiri were present.

Dr Ravikumar planted a sapling to mark the occasion. Dr Joy A Ghoshal, Dean of the AIIMS. Shramdeep Sinha, Deputy Director and Dr K Sasank addressed the students. A special demonstration and hands-on-training on Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) was conducted by team of American Heart Association (AHA) led by Dr Sachin Menon and Dr Gowtham along with trainers from SVIMS, Tirupati as a surprise to students and parents for empowering the happy family and healthy community.

Later, a white coat ceremony was conducted wherein the white coats were presented to each AIIMS students by their parents. Dr Rakesh Kakkar, Professor and Head, Dept of Community Medicine proposed a vote of thanks.
