Chittoor: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, during his recent visit to Chittoor, made several promises for the development of city. But several of his earlier promises remain unattended. He promised that 'Chittoor and Tirupati' would be developed as ' Twin Cities' which is said to be an uphill task for government.
The distance between Chittoor and Tirupati is above 70 km and it covers Chandragiri, P Kothakota and Puthalapattu mandals. It would take at least three decades to develop human habitation with buildings , roads and parks train routes between the two cities, it is felt.
In addition, the Chief Minister has assured that Shilparamam would be developed at Chittoor on par with the Shilparamam in Tirupati. He gave clear instructions to the District collector in the regard and stated that Chittoor is no more be inferior to Tirupati.
But none of his promises have been fulfilled due to various reasons. Most of the official and political programmes are being held at Tirupati instead of Chittoor. District level offices like Transco, APSRTC, Irrigation, Setvin and others are located at Tirupati though Chittoor is the district head-quarters. Chittoor city has been facing drinking water scarcity for several decades.
Chandrababu Naidu made futile efforts to find a permanent solution for water shortage the city, it is said. After the authorities have taken up road widening works, Chittoor wears a pathetic look due to demolished buildings.
The Chittoor Municipal Corporation has demolished Indian Red Cross Society Building, Gandhi statue, District Library building and other monumental structures for expanding the roads.
Speaking to The Hans India here on Monday, District Collector P.S.Pradyuna admitted that many of the Chief Minister’s promises for development are yet to be attended at different levels. However, he said that steps would be taken up to develop the city.
Beautification of Kattamanchi tank and Gangineni tank is in final stage. Drinking to Chittoor city would be drawn from Adavipalli reservoir within three months. In three or four months, the promises of CM would be attended, “ he added.
