Trial run of Kondaveetivagu Lift Irrigation scheme commences

Guntur: The water resources department officials on Friday conducted a trial run for Kondaveetivagu Lift Irrigation Scheme constructed at a cost of Rs 222 crore at Undavalli in Tadepalli mandal in Guntur district on Friday. The officials set up 16 motors for the lift irrigation scheme, they switched on four motors and conducted the trail run.
Chief Minister N.Chandrababu Naidu is likely to inaugurate the project on September 10. The irrigation officials expressed satisfaction over the performance of the motors. The aim of the constructing the lift irrigation scheme is to divert the flood water of the Kondaveetivagu stream into Krishna river. The stream will get 5,000 cusecs of flood water. The irrigation department will divert flood water into Krishna river.
The officials decided to conduct the trial run in August but due to delay in 132 KV electrical sub-station works, lift irrigation scheme trial run was delayed. Speaking to The Hans India, irrigation department superintending eEngineer Malepati Babu Rao said: “We have conducted a trial run of four motor sets on Friday.
We will release the water and conduct the trial run on Saturday yet again to test whether the motors could lift the water or not. We will divert the Kondaveetivagu flood water into the Krishna River. There is no flood threat to the agriculture fields in Tullur, Mangalagiri and parts of Tadikonda”.
