Ongole: The Bharat Bandh call given by the Congress and its allies didn’t show much impact in Prakasam district. The schools voluntarily announced a holiday on Monday earlier. Normal life was not affected by the bandh call. The banks, government and private offices worked as usual.

The Congress leaders, including the DCC president Eda Sudhakar Reddy, CPI district secretary ML Narayana, CPM district leader Kondareddy, Jana Sena, AAP leaders and members of other people’s organisations protested in front of the RTC Depot in the early morning and blocked the movement of buses.

Sudhakar Reddy and other leaders said that the Union government was increasing the fuel prices day by day, though the price of crude oil was reducing in the international market. They demanded that the government include fuel prices also under GST immediately to give the common public a chance to survive. They alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was behaving like Hitler and torturing the common man and filling the pockets corporate giants.

The TDP leaders organised a rally by pulling a car tied with ropes and staged a protest in front of the Collectorate. They demanded that the Union government reduce fuel prices immediately. Similar protests were organised by all parties except YSRCP at Kandukur, Chirala, Giddalur and other places.

The APSRTC Prakasam Regional Manager, G Vijaya Geetha announced that only 2 percent of the services were affected. The corporation incurred about Rs 25 lakh revenue loss due to the decrease in passengers number. She said that the trips covered 15,000 kms out of 3,05,000 kms daily coverage because of cancellation of some services due to the bandh. She said that the bandh call impacted about 10 percent of the traffic in Ongole depot, less than 5 percent at Chirala and other depots.
