Amaravati: Holding the Central government responsible for the suicides in Andhra Pradesh, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi accord Special Category Status to the State immediately and also fulfill all the promises made in the AP Reorganisation Act.

Paying tributes to those who committed suicides in the State demanding the Special Category Status (SCS) and employment, the AP Legislative Assembly observed two minutes silence as a mark of respect to the departed souls. Revealing the facts related to suicides committed by the aggrieved persons, in the Assembly, Chandrababu Naidu said that they wrote suicide letters before they committed suicides.

For instance, Maddireddy Mahendar Reddy, 14, a 10th standard student committed suicide after stating that his brother did not get employment since the State did not get the SCS. Mahendar Reddy was a resident of Jaladurg village in Pyapili mandal of Kurnool district and committed suicide on Monday, Chandrababu Naidu explained.

Chandrababu Naidu appealed to people not to commit suicide and assured that the Special Category Status (SCS) could be achieved by means of demands and protests.

He said securing the Special Category Status (SCS) for the State and getting other promises made to the State in the AP Reorganisation Act fulfilled were important.

At the same time, he maintained that value of life was more important than anything and appealed to people not to take any extreme steps.
Assuring to continue the agitation against the Central government, Chandrababu Naidu stressed the need for a united fight until justice is done to Andhra Pradesh.

He expressed grief over the suicide committed by the minor boy in Kurnool district. The Chief Minister informed the House that there were also earlier instances of youth committing suicide for the Special Category Status.

Those who committed suicides in the State include: Munikoti of Tirupati, Sudhakar at Madanapalli, Doddi Trinath at Rajamahendravaram, Bejavada Srinivas at Nuzivid, Ramisetti Lakshmaiah and P Yanadaiah, he said.

The Chief Minister promised that the State government will help their families to come out of the problems. He said if the Central government provided the Special Category Status to AP and fulfilled all the other promises of AP Reorganisation Act then there would be no suicides in the State. The House paid tributes to the deceased persons by observing two minutes silence.
