New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (NREDCAP) received eight similar awards in the same category for renewable energy promotion.

Dr Gulshan Rai, chief Information Security officer at the Prime Minister’s office and National Cyber Security Coordinator, Government of India, presented the awards at a programme held at Constitution Club of India in New Delhi on Wednesday.

The jury of the SKOCH award committee, praising Andhra Pradesh for securing the No 1 position, said that it was worthwhile for other states to follow AP model of energy efficiency and renewable energy areas.

Speaking on the occasion, Bansal Sharma and Chowhan, the jury members of the award committee, said the AP energy department got awards for adopting pro-public policies in power sector, direct monitoring and committed bureaucracy/official machinery and public support.

In a special message, Ajay Jain, Principal Secretary of Energy, Infrastructure and Investment and APCRDA, said the installed capacity of power generation registered 89 per cent growth in the last four years and transmission and distribution losses have reduced to 9.72 per cent, the lowest losses recorded among all other states in India.

Ajay Jain said the state has achieved the total installed solar capacity of 2,515 MW and wind power capacity of 3,995 MW. Under energy efficiency measures, he said more than 2.18 crore LED bulbs were distributed to households, 6.17 lakh LED streetlights were installed in municipalities apart from 13 lakh LED streetlights in Gram Panchayats.

He added that about 32,000 non-ISI pumpsets were replaced with 5-star-rated energy efficient pumpsets as part of demand side management (DSM) in agriculture sector.
