Tirupati: Valmikipuram circle inspector Tejomurthy was placed under suspension onWednesday on the charges of sexually harassing a woman. Following a complaint from the aggrieved woman Samyuktha to Chittoor SP, Anantapur Range DIG G Srinivas, based on preliminary enquiry, issued orders suspending the police officer on Wednesday.

The woman running a beauty parlour in Pilerapproached Tejomurthyin February last to lodge a complaint against her husband working in Kuwaitafter he allegedly married another woman.

However, the police officer deliberately delayed enquiry in the case and allegedlyacted in an indecent manner with woman whenever she came to policestation to remind about her case. Further, the CI stared harassing thewoman on phone by sending lewd messages to her forcing her to approachhigherups.

Samyuktha, armed with the explicit messages of circleinspector seeking sexual favours, met Chittoor SP in Tirumalato act on the CI on Wednesday leading to the suspension of Tejomurthy. The lewd messages from the police officer, since last few months, tothe women went viral on social media resulting in Chief Minister NChandrababu Naidu taking it very seriously.

He directed the policehigherups to immediately probe into the incident and take stern actionon the accused. Meanwhile, woman bodies including All India Democratic WomanAssociation (AIDWA) and AP MahilaSamakhya rallied behind the aggrievedwoman and demanded the government to do justice to the woman.

Speaking to media along with the victim, AIDWA district secretary SaiLakshmi and AP MahilaSamakhya state secretary Jayalkshmi said thatTejomurthy act was unpardonable. Being a police officer, he instead of doing justice to the woman facing a serious family problem, tried toexploit her and forcing her to do sexual favours to resolve the case in her favour. They affirmed that the women bodies will not rest until theaccused police officer brought to book for punishment.
