Govt staff exhorted to donate blood

• With number of viral fever cases are on the rise across the north coastal district, relatives of patients thronging the blood banks, hence, reserves have come down
• During a visit to the Indian Red Cross Blood Bank, doctors informed the Collector that there is a need to conduct blood donation camps as there is shortage of blood

Visakhapatnam: Collector Pravin Kumar exhorted the government employees in the district to donate blood as there is an acute shortage of blood in blood banks.

A large number of government officers and employees, who are working at rural areas in the district rushed to the Collectorate, and donated blood in a blood donation camp conducted here on Saturday.

As the number of viral fever cases are on the rise across the north coastal district, relatives of patients thronging the blood banks, hence, the reserves have come down.

During a visit to the Indian Red Cross Blood Bank, doctors informed the Collector that there is a need to conduct blood donation camps.

Therefore, the Collector Pravin Kumar called upon the government officials to donate blood to save patients.

Speaking to the media here on Saturday, Collector K Pravin Kumar thanked blood donors who came forward to donate blood in supporting the needy.

Around 5,000 members of Passive Surveillance teams, which were divided into various teams and divisions, would visit 5,80,000 houses which are under the Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation (GVMC) for two days, and destroy the mosquito breeding sources at homes and create awareness on preventive measures taken up against dengue and other viral fevers as part of ‘Domalapai Dandayatra’ a door to door campaign.

Commissioner of GVMC M Hari Narayanan, Sub-Collector of Paderu region Balaji and several other district officials from rural areas donated blood.
