Ongole: Doctor Munnangi Foundation on Sunday celebrated the jayanti of well-known poets Gurram Jashua and Boyi Bheemanna, with president Munnangi Rahela garlanding their portraits.
Addressing the gathering, he recalled the works of Jashua and said one of the Tirupati Venkatakavulu had honoured him with a gold anklet, which was treated as the highest honour by the poet. He said Ghantala had recited four poems of Jashua.
Rehala stated that Bheemanna enriched literature with the objective achieving social awareness.
He pointed out that through plays like ‘Paleru’ and ‘Ragavasishtam’ the poet had sought to do away with the caste system by encouraging inter-caste marriages.
