Visakhapatnam: Maoists looked into minute details of the operation and left nothing to chance. A huge number of landmines and pipe bombs are reportedly planted en route to Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Telangana from Andhra Odisha Border (AOB).

This they did to slow down police response as well as keep them off the place of incidence after killing the present and former MLAs of Araku. And they safely slipped into the dense forests.

According to reliable information, the Maoists divided themselves into three groups after the attack and fled into the dense forest blocks of Odisha and Telangana State. Their plan indicates their being alert to any possibility of a swift offensive by the cops on receipt of information about the killings.

After the Chhattisgarh police made arrests of some Maoists recently, the Central Intelligence cautioned the AP police not to spread across the jungles without taking adequate preparations and caution.

It particularly drew the AP police attention to likely presence of a huge number of landmines and pipe bombs at all vulnerable areas, as Maoists are expected to retaliate. The AP police accordingly warned people’s leaders not to venture into interior areas in the Agency areas without a strong cover.

“Nothing new in this; they always keep silent for some time before launching an ambush. They usually lie in wait for any influential leader stepping into their strongholds. Landmines and other explosives are planted to stop the advance of armed forces should any ambush take place, as had happened in Balimela incident, which claimed 38 police lives,” a police official from Paderu told The Hans India.
