3 workers die in granite factory shed collapse

Addanki: Three workers were dead on the spot when the shed of a granite processing factory collapsed in Ballikurava mandal of Praksam district on Wednesday evening. One more person died at hospital.

The Sub-Inspector of Ballikurava, Y Nagaraju said that Sai Ravi Granites is a granite processing factory at Konidena village in Ballikurava mandal. Though the factory is being constructed on one side, the management is running the machinery in a shed to cut the stones for the past some days.

The factory is located beside water logged agriculture fields. Due to continuous rains since morning, the walls got cracks and the entire shed collapsed in the evening.

The locals found that two construction workers, Gogineni Purnamma of Chennupalli and Yesu Mariyamma of Nakkabokkalapadu, were dead on the spot, while 10 others sustained injuries as the hollow bricks and asbestos sheets fell on them. The injured persons were shifted to Addanki Area Hospital.

One more person died in the hospital while getting treatment. The owners of the factory reached the spot. By the time, revenue and police officials have come and removed the rubble.
