Vijayawada: Mukhyamantri Arogya Kendrams (MAK) have come as a boon to the urban poor in the state.Quality primary healthcare is now being provided to the urban poor in their vicinity the MAKs.

As many as 69 lakh urban poor people in the state have undergone treatment at MAKs so far from October 2016. Theycould avail of about 30 kinds of lab tests at these centres and the State government is providing free medicines to patients.

The state government inaugurated as many as 224 MAKs across the state. Eighteen more are planned to open in various districts onOctober 1. The State government is facilitating tele medicine services to the patients by arranging for consultations through telecommunication.

Krishna district MAK Manager Vishnu Priya said that for every 45,000 and above population, one MAK is set up. A new centre at Nuzvid in the district will be opened on October 1. Daily immunization programme will be held throughout the year at these centres.

Each centre has a staff of six members, with an MBBS doctor, two ANMs, one lab technician, one IT person and one general assistant will be available at each centre, she informed.

Based on the patient’s conditions, doctorsat the MAC take the guidance of a specialist from Hyderabad Apollo through teleconference. After final consultation is completed, medicines are prescribed online and theyare dispensed from the pharmacy at the MAK itself.

General Medicine, Cardiologist, Orthopaedic and Endocrinology specialists are available for tele-consultations from Apollo at these MAKs. The pharmacy is using e-Aushadhi software module to track the entire medicine use, she added.

MAKs have good infrastructure facilities including patient waiting hall (air-conditioned), computer system, full-fledged lab and pharmacy manned by a chemists. They also have dedicated internet towers, internal networking in the entire centre and online VC module for online specialist consultation.

MAKs function seven days a week and the staff of MAK are available 365 days a year from 8 am to 12 noon and from 4 pm to 8 pm to the poor urban patients, the official said.
