Kakinada: With the ban on use of plastic carry bags and allied materials came into force from October 2, the Kakinada Municipal Corporation authorities have taken up awareness programmes for various organisations concerned in the sale and use of plastic materials.

According to municipal corporation health officer Dr Y Ananta Kumar, they had decided to organise awareness programmes for various organisations for 10 days.

As part of this, an awareness meeting was held for cloth traders on October 3.

For Kirana, provision and general traders the meet was held on Thursday.
“We will continue these programmes for one week and create awareness on effects of the plastic on environment.

We are advising these sections to opt for jute, paper and allied materials which are not harmful for environment,” he said.

“We have decided to give sufficient time to all stake holders in the sale, purchase and use of plastic and allied materials,” said Dr Ananta Kumar.

“By taking all these measures, we are hoping to keep the smart city free from plastic from the first day of January 2019,” the MHO added.
