New Delhi: In what is being seen as one more instance of step-motherly treatment to AP, the Centre is yet to take a call on releasing funds for development of backward districts while at the same time clearing Rs 450 crore for Telangana under the same head. The Centre, which had transferred Rs 350 crore to AP in March this year, immediately reversed the amount, contending that utilisation certificates were due for the funds released earlier for the same purpose.

The state government immediately sent the utilisation certificates but the Centre had not yet got around to releasing the amount pending with it. While this is so, the Centre released Rs 450 crore to Telangana last week, which too was pending along with the amount due to Andhra Pradesh.

According to sources, a decision on release of funds for AP is yet to be taken. The Centre has been releasing Rs 350 core and Rs 450 crore to AP and Telangana annually, at the rate of Rs 50 crore for each of seven districts in AP and each of nine districts in Telangana.
