Tirupati: The e-challan system introduced in the temple city 45 days ago is filling the coffers of the state government. So far, the traffic cops generated Rs 57 lakh to the government by collecting fines from 15,861 traffic rule violators. Earlier, the cops used to collect traffic challan amount manually.

The CCTV cameras installed in the city are capturing the visuals of traffic violators round-the-clock and cops are generating e-challans with an evidence and sending SMSes to mobile numbers of vehicle owners with the support of the RTA data.

Now, the traffic cops are concentrating on drunken driving, blocking of free left, overload carrying vehicles, triple riding and driving without licence. Vehicles caught in drunken driving are being seized as per the Motor Vehicle Act.

Speaking to The Hans India, DSP (Traffic) K Sukumari said that traffic violators can pay fine at AP Online and Mee Seva centres. Traffic personnel will release the seized vehicles after showing them fine paid receipts, she stated.
