Polavaram (West Godavari district): Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu called upon officials to speed up Polavaram Project works to see that water is supplied through gravity to farmers by June 2019.
He asked them to work with dedication and commitment to realise the objective. Polavaram Project is the lifeline of the State and any lapses relating to the construction of the project cannot be spared, he warned.
Reviewing the progress of Polavaram Project works with the officials and elected representatives, after inspecting the works the project site on Monday, he underlined the need to complete the earth works in four months instead of eight months.
He directed the officials to devise an action plan to dig 1.42 lakh cubic metres of earth work relating to spillway, left canal, cofferdam, four earth approach channels and asked them to engage necessary workers and machines in this regard.
He said radial gates will be inaugurated on December 10 and the cofferdam works would also be completed. He advised contractors not to construct the houses to the displaced without quality. He asked the officials to arrange bus passes to the displaced so that they can visit their houses every week.
He directed the officials to arrange loans to the displaced who want to construct the houses on their own and asked them to paint their houses with the colours they are interested.
The State government will soon announce compensation for 400 acres to non-STs who have donated their lands for Polavaram Project. The Chief Minster said that a two-day Collectors' conference will be held in Vijayawada on October 25 and 26. He said the State government was able to overcome the drought problem due to effective water management.
Monday’s visit to Polavaram was Naidu’s 28th visit to the project site. Ministers Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, K S Jawahar, Pithani Satyananrayana, MLAs M Srinivas, Bandaru Madhava Naidu, Nimmala Rama Naidu, G Veeranjaneyulu, MV Rao, DCCB chairman Mutyala Ratnam, Water Resources Department secretary Sasibhushan Kumar, Engineer-in-Chief M Venkateswara Rao, Collector Katamaneni Bhaskar and others were present.
