Visakhapatnam: The Visakhapatnam city police revealed some facts after recording the video statement of accused J Srinivas, who attacked Opposition Leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy at airport, late on Thursday evening.

Addressing the media, additional DCP K Mahendra Patrudu said that the accused drafted an eight pages letter in which he stated that he had resorted to the attack to garner sympathy for Jaganmohan Reddy among the people to secure more votes in the upcoming elections as he want to see Jagan as chief minister.

He had said he had decided to cause minor injury to Jagan Mohan Redd as it is sure to whip up a wave of sympathy for him which would further shore up his chances of victory at the hustings.

Police had identified that accused had changed nine mobile phones and made over 10,000 calls within a year to various people. The police officers are probing into the calls of the accused to find out more facts and persons involved in the plot, Mahendra Patrudu said.

The police are going to record Y S Jaganmohan Reddy's statement on the incident as there are no CCTVs placed in the VIP lounge of Visakhapatnam airport, the ADCP said.

The ADCP said that the weapon he used is the one used by professional chefs for fruit and vegetables carving at the food festivals and the police are probing how the accused carried the weapon into the terminal building of the airport.

The CC TV footage is being examined, he added. Meanwhile, the city police urged the people not to be panic on the rumours and also warned those who were morphing the photos Srinivas clubbing him with Chandrababu Naidu and Nara Lokesh.
