Chittoor: Widespread protests were witnessed in Chittoor district following the attack on YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) President YS Jaganmohan Reddy in Visakhapatnam airport on Thursday.

Party activists took to streets in Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Nagari, Thamballapalle, Madanapalle and other places to condemn the attack on their party chief while leaders of various parties also joined in condemning the attack on YS Jagan. In Srikalahasti, students in some colleges boycotted classes and resorted to protests condemning the attack.

CPI district secretary A Rama Naidu said every democrat should strongly condemn such physical attack on political party leaders and demanded severe action on those found responsible behind the incident which he said very unfortunate.

Any political differences should be met with politically and not violently, he said. Veteran film actor Manchu Mohan Babu at a press conference condemned the attack on YS Jagan and said that it was due to security failure. He stated that he had not dreamt of such attack on leaders like Jagan, who he said fighting for the people.

Girijana Praja Samakhya (GPS) founder president V Sankar Naik also denounced the attack on Jagan. The incident reveals the security lapse in the international airport under the control of centre and intelligence failure, he said, demanding fool-proof measures of security to leaders like Jagan, who as opposition leader enjoys the status of Cabinet rank.

Security failure alleged

Nellore: YSRCP leaders have responded to the attack on their party chief YS Jaganmohan Reddy in Visakhapatnam and organised protests in various parts of the district on Thursday. Nellore Rural MLA K Sridhar Reddy staged a protest at Current Office Centre here.

Further, party activists also staged protests in Sullurpet, Naidupet, Chejarla, Gudur, Atmakur, Udayagiri, Varikuntapadu and other places wearing black badges. They took out rallies and criticised that the state government had failed to protect him. Activists in Udayagiri and Varikuntapadu burnt effigies of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu during the protests.

CM resignation demanded
Tirupati: Party’s student union leaders have burnt the effigy of the Chief Minister protesting against the attack on YSRCP President YS Jaganmohan Reddy inside the airport in Visakhapatnam on Thursday. Students led by its district president V Hariprasad Reddy staged a dharna in front of the Sri Venkateswara University and demanded the resignation of the Chandrababu as his government failed to provide security to opposition leader.

Suicide attempt

Kadapa: YSRCP loyal activist A Lakshminaryana (37) of Bakkannagari village of Vempalle mandal has attempted suicide by slitting his throat during a protest. The cops prevented him from taking extreme step and shifted him to the police station. CPM State Secretary P Madhu, who was attending the party meetings in Kadapa city on Thursday, has condemned the attack on YS Jagan and demanded for judicial probe into the incident. He expressed doubts over the statements issued by Home Minister and DGP.

In Proddatur, YSRCP MLA R Sivaprasada Reddy has organised a rally condemning the attack on YSRCP chief. Traders and businessmen have voluntarily closed their business establishments. Former Kadapa MP Avinash Reddy has demanded the state government to initiate stringent action against the accused and to bring the mastermind of the attack to justice. He asked the government to provide adequate security to YS Jagan till the conclusion of padayatra.
