Visakhapatnam: Police deny the allegations made by Maoists against them. Earlier, Maoists of AOBSZC (Andhra Odisha Border Special Zone) had released letter on October 26 making many allegations against Vizag Rural Police which include harassing tribal youth. It was also alleged that police were taking innocent youth into custody in some villages and branding them as Maoist sympathisers.

On Monday, Anil Pulati, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Chintapalli area in Visakha range, had given a rejoinder to the Maoist allegations. He stated that tribes in rural agency areas were now aware who are obstructing their legal rights and freedom.

Denying the allegation of illegal arrests, the SDPO said that police department has been conducting many welfare activities like Cheyutha, Ujjwala, Spoorthi and other programmes for the benefit of tribal youth.

The police officer pointed out that some people in the dalam indulged in anti-social activities, destroyed public properties, damaged crops and looting the benefits of some beneficiaries in Veeravaram, Jerrila, Gudalam veedhi,Sagulu, Cheedipalli, Balapam, Chheekatimamid.

The letter further says, ``Maoists were killing innocent people and people representatives by conducting false Public court. But police, during an encounter at Chitrakonda block near Andravalli on October 12th in which DCM Meena was dead, had arrested four Maoists and handed over them to Odisha police. Whereas Maoists are killing innocent people in the name of police informers.

Maoists are saying that coffee plantation would be distributed among tribes. But cultivating the coffee crop systematically can be followed under the guidance of ITDA and APFDC. The government also providing Rs 250 as daily wages for working at coffee plantations. Now, the Maoists are trying to lobby with the mediators and earn profits by deceiving the tribes, said Anil Pulati.
