Electoral registration officers play key role in preparing voters list: CEO Sisodia
Electoral registration officers EROs play a key role in preparing the voters list, said Chief Electoral Officer CEO RP Sisodia while addressing at the launch of twoday training programme for the electoral registration officers on the ERO Net at the Irrigation camp office here on Tuesday
Vijayawada: Electoral registration officers (EROs) play a key role in preparing the voters list, said Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) RP Sisodia while addressing at the launch of two-day training programme for the electoral registration officers on the ERO Net at the Irrigation camp office here on Tuesday.
Sisodia said that all the electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers should be brought under a single window to prepare the perfect voters list. This programme would help the EROs to get all their doubts clarified regarding the electoral rolls, he added.
Sisodia said that ERO Net dashboard would help the EROs maintain the voters list. They need to prepare a checklist with the help of latest technology to observe the status of the list at field level, he added. He instructed the EROs to prepare the final list by January 4.
He said that the polling booths should be linked through GIS location and mark the limits of the constituencies and prepare the maps to implement the guidelines of the Election Commission of India. In the case of errors in the voters list, the EROs would be held responsible, he said adding that relying on the computer operators would result in faults in registration of voters.
He suggested that the EROs login personally instead of relying on others to prevent mistakes. While registering the voters, the name, sex, age, relation and photo should be verified to prevent errors, he said and added that the names of the deceased, persons who migrated to permanently, and below 18 years should be deleted. Booth-level officers should personally visit the houses to verify the voters who registered online, he said.
Sisodia said that every ERO should link the information with the National Voter Service portal to prepare an error-free list. Sisodia suggested that the EROs should personally visit the polling booths to verify whether there are ramps for the physically challenged to vote. “If they are not suitable, they should take up the matter with the district collector concerned,” he added.
He appealed to the EROs to make use of the two-day training for discharging their duties effectively. Technical training officer Puneeth Grower also participated.
