Guntur: Collector Kona Sasidhar directed the district medical and health department to set up help desks at railway stations and RTC Bus Stands to create awareness on communicable diseases. He also directed the officials to set up flexis at prime junctions in the district.

The collector issued these directions with district report increase in swine flu, diphtheria and viral fever cases. Meanwhile two persons died of diphtheria in the district recently. Taking this into consideration, the collector directed DMHO Dr T Ramesh to take all precautionary measures to check spread viral diseases.

Meanwhile a 9-year-old Mogali Ganesh Durga suffering from diphtheria was undergoing treatment at the Government Fever Hospital in Guntur city. His condition stated to be improving. Ganesh Durga is a resident of Timmapuram village under Yadlapadu mandal and has been suffering from fever and uneasiness and approached the local doctor in Yadlapadu.

Based on his suggestion, he came to GGH in Guntur for treatment. After conducting the tests, the doctor at GGH referred him to the Government Fever Hospital in Guntur city.

Speaking to The Hans India, DMHO Dr T Ramesh said "Mogali Ganesh Durga undergoing treatment at the Government Fever Hospital in Guntur city, is out of danger. We have conducted a survey near his house in Timmapuram and conducting campaign to create awareness on diphtheria. So far one person died of diphtheria due to delay in treatment.”
