Vijayawada: As part of its efforts to woo the minority voters in the ensuing Assembly elections in Vijayawada West Assembly constituency, the YSRCP is conducting mega pubic meeting at Panja centre on November 11, the Minorities Day, which is observed to mark the birth anniversary of noted freedom fighter and the first education minister of India, Moulana Abul Kalam Azad.
The YSRCP is canvassing for the last few days about the pubic meeting in the old city and has been trying to make it a grand success. Party senior leaders will attend the meeting and explain the party activities and may target the ruling TDP. Muslims constitute sizable population in the West Assembly constituency and mainstream political parties generally field Muslim candidates for the last few decades in the constituency.
Political analysts opine that the YSRCP public meeting is counter to Minority Day conducted by the State government every year. The TDP government is felicitating Muslim employees, teachers, lecturers and students every year to mark the Minorities Day. Now, the YSRCP decided to conduct a public meeting and explain the objectives of the party.
YSRCP general secretary Vijay Sai Reddy, former MLA Y V Subba Reddy, Krishna district regional coordinator and MLA Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy, Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency coordinator Mohammed Iqbal, Vijayawada Parliamentary constituency in-charge Samineni Udayabhanu, Machilipatnam Parliamentary constituency in-charge and former Minister Kolusu Parthasarathy and other leaders will address the meeting.
Speaking to reporters at the party office here on Friday, YSRCP city minority leader M S Baig and YSRCP doctors’ cell Krishna district president Dr Mahaboob said that Muslim youth were largely benefited with the four per cent of reservations sanctioned in the educational institutions by the former chief minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy.
They said the fee reimbursement scheme introduced by YSR is very useful to thousands of students. They said that the YSRCP leaders and Muslims would pay tributes to freedom fighter Abul Kalam Azad at the public meeting and appealed to Muslims to make the meeting a grand success by participating in large numbers.
