Vijayawada: Andhra Hospitals in association with Healing Little Hearts, UK, with the support of Samantha Pratyusha Foundation, successfully performed complex pediatric cardiac surgeries to 12 children from November 5 to 10, said Dr PV Rama Rao, Chief of Children’s Services, Andhra Hospitals here on Saturday.
Speaking to media, he said that 11 doctors from UK’s world famous hospitals, Great Ormond Street Hospital London, Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital, UK, University Hospital Motol, Prague and Leicester Royal Infirmary, Leicester, UK performed 12 free heart surgeries during the week.
He said the UK doctors team include paediatric interventional cardiologist, paediatric cardiac surgeon, paediatric cardiac intensivists, perfusionist and paediatric intensive care nurses. The team was led by Dr Roman from Czech and Dr Vikram, Paediatric Cardiologist from Andhra Hospitals.
The team had successfully performed all complex heart surgeries which include TAPVC, tetralogy of fallot, absent pulmonary valve, double outlet right ventricle, AVSD, tricuspid artesia and other complex heart defects.
He added that since 2015 the UK team of doctors have visited Andhra Hospitals 15 times and performed complex paediatric cardiac surgeries giving new ease of life to hundreds of children.
Rama Rao said they could achieve a success rate of nearly 100 per cent with the team effort of pediatric cardiology, cardiac surgical team and pediatric intensive care team from Andhra Hospitals and UK.
Kalyani, mother of toddler Abhiram, and P Roopa mother of another toddler Rohith speaking to The Hans India expressed happiness for the successful conduct of heart surgeries on their children.
Dr Roman, Dr Peter Bukovsky, Martina, Lozek, Hanzlikova Nikola, Kaulerova and Dr Dilip, cardiac surgeon, Dr Sreemannarayana, cardiologist, Dr Ramesh cardiac anesthetist, Dr Krishna Prasad, Paediatric cardiac intensive were present.
