Nellore: Mahila Rakshak teams were constituted in police wing in a novel way for checking eve teasing and harassing cases against women. These teams, unlike others, press into action instantly as soon as they get information from the local police or instructions from the Command Control where they get visual evidence on such crimes.

Superintendent of Police Aishwarya Rastogi on Tuesday formally launched these teams and said that these teams are being formed for safety of women across the district.Later speaking to the media at Umesh Chandra conference hall in the city, the SP said that they had formed 10 teams to take action against people who tease women and teenagers. The aim is to react instantly to prevent any untoward incidents, said the SP.

``Each team consists of two men constables and two women constables. Local police inform to the Mahila Rakshak teams in case they identify any eve teasing or other incidents against women while watching in CCTV cameras kept at various places in city by Command Control Room.

Teenagers who resort to such crimes would be given counselling initially and they would be punished according to law if they continue the same activity,’ said Aishwarya Rastogi.

They would publicise the services of Mahila Rakshak teams through media like digital display boards in public places, short films and in theatres. He also explained that police would also receive grievances on working style of Mahila Rakshak teams.

He also said that they would organise awareness campaign in all educational institutions and also conduct rallies in the city about functioning of these teams. The SP appealed to the women not to hesitate approaching the police for help whenever they feel necessary.

Women can also lodge their complaints on ‘93907 77727’ Whatsapp number and also at Mahila Police Station located in Old Fourth Town Police Station, he added. Additional SP P Parameswar Reddy, City DSP NBM Murali Krishna and others were present.
