Guntur: Food Security Commission Chairman J R Pushparaj said that the government issued GO No 9 to constitute a district level committee to check irregularities in PDS rice. As per the GO, district supply officer is the convener for district level committee.

Addressing media in the city on Friday, Pushparaj said that he will test quality of PDS rice and curb its recycling. Stating that the officials have found that they were 6,25,145 excess cards in the State during their probe, he made it clear that the government will issue white ration cards to all eligible beneficiaries.

He said that they have conducted social audit in Palnadu region as 36,000 rationcard holders have no correct address. He further said that they inspected midday school at Phirangipuram in Guntur district and found that 40 per cent of the students were not eating midday meal.

He felt there was need to improve quality of food to be supplied in the schools. During Anganwadi centre inspection, they found underweight eggs are being supplied to the centre and instructed the ICDS officials to inspect the centre.

He said that they found Anjeya Oil Mill in Narasaroapet was operating without valid licence and added that they will book cases on the oil mill. He said that the officials were booking cases against those who are exporting PDS rice through Kakinada and Krishnapatnam ports.
