Vijayawada: The Capital Regional Development Authority (CRDA) is making road widening plans from Ramavarapupadu Ring Centre to Gannavaram Airport. The road stretch is important to provide better transport connectivity for airport passengers especially to VIPs.
Though there is already four-lane road in the stretch, the proposed road expansion plan will ease traffic congestion for air passengers.
According to sources, the CRDA conducted survey in this regard recently. As per the proposals, the CRDA wants to widen road by 20 ft each on both sides of National Highway. Totally, the road will get 40 ft additional way from Ramavarapupadu to Gannavaram Airport.
Enough space is also available on the stretch to widen the road. After completion of land acquisition process to take up road expansion works, some structures including residences should be demolished.
In fact, the road stretch assumed significance following the developments of Amaravati as capital city. The VIP movement has also been increasing in the last four years from Gannavaram Airport.
Moreover, plans are being finalised to introduce international flights from Gannavaram Airport from next month. The increasing vehicular movement is also causing traffic jams and difficulties to air passengers.
In this backdrop, the State government directed the CRDA to make plans to develop the road stretch. Already the road was developed as green corridor. The CRDA designed the stretch attractively by undertaking beautification works with full greenery.
As part of plans, the CRDA also wants to widen the road, said a senior official. Speaking to The Hans India, he said that the road works would be taken up soon.
The official said the expansion of road would be more useful as the State government plans to introduce first phase of light metro train in the stretch.
He said that the formalities would be completed including getting permission from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) soon.
